Adaptation B: Mental Health research

For my infographic I chose to base it on Mental Health, understanding a specific disorder for common people to understand others with my chosen disorder. After speaking with Alan, he advised I spoke to MIND.

I contacted Mind to figure out the most commonly miss-understood and popular mental health disorder, I am awaiting my reply but I am looking at depression. I looked onto Mind's website to look at the information they had and found this.

Since there are different types of depression, I have chosen to look more in to one rather than different ones, but this could change regarding Mind's reply.

Adaptation A: When should you poop? The Facts

"When is the best time of the day to.. poop at work"

I have researched into different factors that'll help me with my information for my Infographic.

Firstly I looked at the "Rules Of Pooping"

This helped me decide that it's not a good time to go when the toilet might be quite popular, which got me into thinking when the toilet would be mostly used, during breaks and during/after lunch.

The average time of day for a lunch break has changed in some work places, but I found that the typical time from a 9am-5pm job was from 11am-1pm due to differences in amount of collages in the building and small companies. Retail jobs tends to be varied on the day and amount of collages working, for instance, 2 people working on a Sunday, the lunch hour would be when which ever one was hungry first and the other person would have their's after, not necessarily straight after.

Lunch hours over the years have changed as I found in this article in the Daily Mail online.

You can read the article here

So with this I decided that I would base my Infographic on pooping at work with an office job rather than retail, teaching, labor or other.

I then thought about once you have had your lunch... It doesn't necessarily  mean you'll "go" straight away. So how long does it take for your food to become poop?

NG: New Idea!

Ok, so my group and I have been trying to figure out our story and with the three factors we've got, we're having a struggle to place them together, so I thought of a possible new story line that will hopefully help us!

Angler Fish!

So the story goes quite simple, the little angler fish wants a bigger, brighter, better light. So he tried using all sorts from LED to car bulbs to disco lights,

but when he finally finds a really nice bright one, no one goes near him as it's too bright and he is easily seen by predators, so he goes back to his original light.

Here are some different types (breeds) of angler fish.

Angler fish are ugly, lets be honest, so can we style a new one? well of course! I done some research on different artist styles and if we have a small angler fish (maybe a baby) we could make him look quite cute, if there is such a thing as a 'cute' angler fish?

I found these two images which I thought would help characterize our angler fish, :)

And they can be cute!

NG: Style research

After discussing style's with my group, we came to the idea of incorporating both 2D and 3D, or how Alan put it 2.5D. Here are some examples of possible styles which incorporate 2D and 3D or in which looks like it's 2D.

The bottom 2 are style's with 3D that I liked as well.

Narrative - Group Project

SO! Day 1 and it's straight to work! We have been giver our first project, Narrative - Group work, in which we have to create and animated short, which also is a form of advertisement.

We were split into groups and one person from each group chose two cards at random, our chosen cards read .

UNDER THE SEA
and
IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT.

Two quite interesting combinations, so together as a team, we decided to set off separately first and thing of at least three possible outcomes of this.

I first decided to look at the meaning behind the phrase "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".I found a video on the phrase which spells it out very easily.

My first initial idea was with Hermit Crabs, the second to do with a Fish Tank (Marine) and the third to do with the BP oil spill and bringing the idea of a "?" after the phrase.

The BP idea came from a video I once saw about Lego working along side Shell, if we all realised the change it is doing to our environment, will we change it? well, no, especially if we don't know it's broken. so it's bringing a different twist to the phrase. "If it ain't broken, don't fix it? Why not?"

Fantastic Voyage: Research, Design and Target Audience

I have chosen to do the reproduction cycle of Moss:

From what I have researched, listened and learnt, I have decided to design mine in a glass style, here some of my influence maps

This is my main inspiration:

I will have a black background, room like, area in which I will show the reproduction of Moss, using the glass so that we can see what's going on inside and using light to show heart beats, life. I will also use the light to help drive attention to what I want the viewer to concentrate on.

I have decided to do this for Young adults and older, an age in which I think would understand and appreciate a structure purely of symphony music, realism and lights. The moss reproduction information will not be worded but decoratively placed within the animation, though if  the animation explains enough and the words are a distraction, I will try with out.

Here is some design ideas for the shapes, colours and glass designs.

These are the designs for my sporophyte.

These are some glass designs for the Gametophyte, plain, reflective colour and solid glass. These are all not including the lighting effect.

These are from a tutorial on "How to create glass in Photoshop" these are my versions. I will make more adjustments of my own design but this is the gist of what I want to do. This will be the design for the spores.

From these designs, I want to keep the colours of green, and incorporate reds and pinks.

Here is my story board of how my animatic will go:

Act 1: Diploid
Act 2: Meiosis

Act 3: Fertilization

Here is the script for the story board:

To be clearer of the beginning of Act 1, I created a short and simple prototype in Maya to explain the spin and zoom.

Artist research

After my OGR and talk with Phil, I started taking a different look at my Martian King.

To start I wanted to do some research on a more military/large scaled lair.

For my inspiration and artist research I looked at a few different things. Looking at large areas, detail, items, machinery (?) and all the in between.

I started with Pakin Liptawat. A concept artist that does a variety of 3D, line art, textured and coloured pieces.

Here is his blog to see more

This next one. Jim Martin, has such a more detailed, photo realistic style

Here is the blog to see more

I also look at the game The Division for it's floor map hologram

Lastly I look at the making of Pacific Rim. This is for possible armor suits my Martians wear (Hero prop maybe?)
